Real World Panda OptimizationLot of things has already written about Google’s Panda update. Google dropped Panda bomb in early 2011 and that changed SEO industry completely. Though, it has changed the rule of the game and provided level playing field to small and medium business owners. Later in 2012 Penguin update further helped to rank new quality websites to rank fairly in quick time.

Later a whole re-writing of Google’s algorithm known as Hummingbird opened the gates for smart webmasters to leverage most of Google search by doing few things in proper way. Many people here and there writes a lot about Panda and says many generic sentences like “Panda requires quality content”, “Panda hates shallow content, it demands in-depth and valuable content” etc.

I have seen many webmasters asking the question, how Google decides what quality content is? Answer is “content is quality content if it serves user what he/she wants”. But again, how Google decides? I am going to answer this question in this post with straight forward example.

Let’s take a query “best season to visit X” where X is some popular place. Now let’s start journey for writing content which ranks well in real Panda world.

First step of the process is to decode the query. We need to identify the objects included in the query. In our example, we have two objects: season and place X. Apart from objects, there is one verb: visit. Now the question is, how to produce best content for these three different identities.

Second step of the process is content curation. Collect information regarding each three identity, organise it and display it. Now this is what text book definition is (which is available on web). I have promised you to explain it with example. So let’s quickly move over to our example.

Content Curation steps

Let’s take each identity separately and understand what kind of information you need to collect, how to organise and how to display it.


When you do think about season, few things come in mind naturally. Like temperature, so you should include temperature of place X in various seasons. Second is environment, so include information of environmental conditions during various time periods of the year i.e. monsoon, winter, summer.


“Visit” can be related to questions like “how to reach the destination X?”, “what should be the itinerary for surrounding place?”, “what kind of transportation available to roam around destination?” and many more.

“Place X”

Destination X can be described by various questions like “what are places to visit around the destination?”, “What are the activities you can do around?”, “how you can enjoy your trip to the destination?”. You can consider every information which proves the destination is perfect for the tour.

Now we have all the information. It’s time to move on to next process organisation. This step includes important thing of storytelling. We have to put together all the information in way which establishes the context between each of these identities. Let me explain you in some simple way.

We are writing content for “best season to visit X”. Now assume our place is hill station and summer months are best to visit. So let put this way, winter can be too hard to tolerate so it is not suggested to visit in winter. Heavy rain can disturb your schedule pick monsoon isn’t best though you may visit. Now we came to the point, summer months and few days before winter with light rain are best. Go ahead with more information like, the waterfalls flows at pick so latter can be best in that way.

This is what illustration I have given. You have to create context between identities like you are building a story. So now you have organised content. Now comes the third part: Display or representation. This is easiest part among all. Create a compelling web page with accurate fact representation. For example, a nice table displaying avg. tempreture range in various months. Activities you can do and places you can visit in various months of a year. Put images of various seasons, activities others were doing etc. One video embed can do wonder to a page.
