How to convert Old-fashioned Link building Technique into advance Link Earning Technique?
SEO or search marketing industry has seen many ups and downs in last half decades. I have also started my carrier at the time of major transformation. Well before Penguin and after Search 2.0 evolved, the quantity of back-links mattered most. After the Penguin it is changed completely. The things which was legal few years back is now became sins. Same as that, after Panda unique content is completely different with today’s definition of quality content.
All these annoying stuff is overwhelmed by Panda & Penguin’s storm. Thousands of websites and online stores have been affected and many got penalties for bad links and spam content distribution. Many so-called analyst stated “SEO is dead now” and “Link building is dead in SEO” etc.
But after some time, scenario of SEO & search marketing business has been cleared by real experts and many marketing geeks. Today everything is live (SEO, Link building, content marketing etc.) but the methodology & its deliverables have been changed noticeably. Today the value of one fruitful article (which is able to go viral) is far more than ten ordinary articles because Google itself says do everything for audience not for search engine.
Core purpose of back-links is & was to get recommendation and referral traffic from the source. Google took the very same concept and started the valuation of links to generate best SERPs. Now it’s time to go back to original concept of back-link. Here I have considered Link building beyond the do-follow and no-follow. I also forget either link is clickable or non-clickable (as it is matter of debate but I believe Google can read plain text link as well). Link is just link which drives visitors to website.
So, today I have taken one old-fashioned link building technique: blog commenting, which is very worthwhile even today. Of-course I have the proof.
In my early days, number of lists were available which lists the blogs which allowed do-follow links without approval, and I had commented on many of them but today it doesn’t make any sense. You have to revise this technique in current SEO practice.
Let me explain with example.
On 22nd of January, I have written an article “How can you become a market leader in travel business via website”
I have applied all the possible way of promoting this article and also got a desired exposure. Blog commenting was also part of it. First I have read articles relevant to my article from worlds few best magazines and newspapers like Wall Street Journals, Daily mail, Forbes, Entrepreneurs etc.
Then I have commented on one of the article published by John Mullins on 26th of January. This article is “How to start a business with very little money”. In my article I have revealed the same but for travel & hospitality business. So I have commented on this article. I have published my feedback on John’s article and at the end, I have referred above mentioned article with link so audience who want to set up travel business can get more startup tips.
And see the result.
On next day 27th of January, I have 8 views from the link I have placed. On the second day same 8 views I have reported in my Google analytics. See below screen shot of GA.
Many famous magazines like Forbes have a feature like called-out comments. That means author can called-out your comments if he/she found it valuable. The called out comments is viewable without login at the end of the article. You will get a great reward in Google analytics if your comment is impressive enough to melt author’s heart. Readers of Forbes & entrepreneur magazine (digital edition) visit your website or article using link from your comment, doesn’t it is clickable or non-clickable (as I have experienced that). Yes, people do copy the URL from your comment & paste it to their browser tab!!!
Here is the example to justify the claim…
On 19th March (a day before my birthday!!) I have published a presentation on Slide share “10 biggest business deals of 2014-15 in digital world”
Similar to article promotion, I have tried my best to get a big influence. I have applied the similar method of content discovery on reputed magazines or newspaper and fortunately I found an article written by Forbes staff member Ryan Mac. The article is “Net-a-Porter to Merge with Yoox Creating Online High Fashion Giant”
I have commented on Ryan’s article (on 31st of March) and asked to see my presentation with its title and shorten URL of slide share link. Ryan liked my comment (or my presentation) and called out the comment. It was first time so I have never seen its impact but the impact was simply amazing!!!
I will back with another link earning techniques, you may call them old-fashioned link building techniques too. But you can use that in different way and also carefully. I have enjoyed writing and hope you may have got ideas of next generation SEO activities. Kindly share your ideas with me via comment, it will enhance the beauty of this article…
